Good manners could be hazardous to your health.  That's according to an article in the "Journal of the American Medical Association" which states a firm handshake is one of the easiest ways to transmit germs.

It recommends treating handshakes like smoking and to designate handshake-free zones in healthcare settings.

The authors say not shaking hands may soon be recognized as an important way to protect both patients' and caregivers' health, "rather than a personal insult to whoever refuses another's hand."
