Though the month of April is more renowned for it's showers, New Bedford is asking folks to keep an eye out for signs of abuse amongst their loved ones. Mayor Jon Mitchell declared April sexual assault awareness and child abuse prevention month.

Michelle Loranger of the Children's Advocacy Center of Bristol County says a child acting differently around a family member is just one of the many red flags that can be associated with abuse.

Loranger says the awareness month allows for an open discussion about child abuse and sexual assault.

Those seeking help can contact the CAC or the Women's Center of New Bedford.
