The State Office of Labor and Workforce Development is awarding grants totaling $631,000 to seven local manufacturing firms to help train their workers on ways to improve productivity and reduce waste of time and investory. 

Sec. Joanne Goldstein was in New Bedford Thursday to announce the grants, and to applaud the seven firms for investing in their workforces.

Secretary Goldstein says a total of 180 workers will be trained over a two year period, with 40 new jobs created, and 35 layoffs averted.

Davico Manufacturing, Acushnet Company-Titleist, and Precix Inc. are among the companies receiving the training funds.
