Over a quarter-of-a-million dollars in grant funding has been awarded to Seven Hills Behavioral Health to provide substance abuse and HIV prevention services in Greater New Bedford.

Congressman William Keating tells WBSM News the nearly $284,000 grant will allow Seven Hills to provide a broad range of services in relation to the Southcoast's opioid problem. "In this instance: screening techniques, wrap-around services for people, education to prevent the spread of opioid abuse and sexually transmitted diseases that are often related to substance abuse in the community," said Keating.

The grant is the first of a five year Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration grant, expected to total 1.5 million dollars.

Seven Hills will collaborate with PAACA, the Greater New Bedford Community Health Center, and Stanley Street Treatment and Resources to implement the program dubbed Project Youth Empowerment Southcoast.
