Brush fires along Route 140 Northbound in Lakeville kept firefighters busy for about five hours Thursday afternoon.

Deputy Chief David Goodfellow says the fire charred an estimated 14-16 acres of woodlands, from Route 140 to Old Stonewall Road and Pickens Street in Lakeville.

There were no injuries reported.

Goodfellow says the flames came close to several homes in a nearby subdivision, but firefighters were able to protect those homes from any damage. He says the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Six fire departments in addition to Lakeville responded to the fire.
