U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren is being given a top Democratic leadership post.

Warren, who first won election to the Senate just two years ago, has been tapped by Sen. Harry Reid of Nevada to serve as strategic policy adviser to the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee.

In an email to supporters Thursday, Warren called her new title a fancy way of saying she's been asked to help Democratic leaders decide how the party can best fight for the people counting on them.

The Massachusetts Democrat is a favorite of liberals, who have embraced her fiery rhetoric trained at financial institutions and in support of graduates facing mountains of student loan debt and homeowners struggling to pay their mortgages.

Democrats lost control of the Senate to Republicans during the midterm elections.
