SEEKONK — Due to the impending heat wave expected to hit the Midwest and northeast regions of the country this weekend, the Town of Seekonk is opening an emergency cooling center for town residents.

Town officials say they will be closely monitoring the extreme heat and will be opening the cooling center at the Seekonk Senior Center Saturday morning. The cooling center will be open from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

Residents who wish to access the emergency cooling center should be sure to bring any medications, food, beverages or other personal items they may need. No food or beverage services will be available. Residents should also note that no pets are permitted into the building.

Those in town who may need assistance with transportation to the cooling center are asked to contact the non-emergency business line of the Seekonk Communications Department at 508-316-8123.
