Massachusetts Secretary of Education, Matt Malone, visited the UMass Dartmouth campus Tuesday to discuss his views of education in the State.

While speaking to a small group of local educators and administrators, Malone offered his thoughts on what could re-shape education in the Commonwealth.

One major suggestion to close the achievement gap is to start teaching students earlier.

He also offered praise for New Bedford Supt. Dr. Pia Durkin and her newly implemented turnaround plan.

Malone went on to note the importance of pathway programs, vocational schools and workforce development.

With the new Baker Administration taking over next month, it is unclear if Malone will retain his position as secretary.
