The spirit of Christmas is alive and well.

Two men visited Unplugged Toys & Gifts at The Silver City Galleria in Taunton on Monday night. They claimed that their own children are grown and have no grandchildren to buy Christmas toys for either. They were in search of a way to make the holiday brighter for others. They succeeded in their mission, and delivered in a big way.

The men, who wish to remain anonymous, paid off the balance on five holiday layaways, allowing five families to appreciate the true spirit of what Christmas is all about.  Walter Mandeville, who co-owns Unplugged Toys & Gifts, tells me the families were truly moved by the gesture;

"Those two guys that paid it forward really brightened up everyone's Christmas."

Mandeville won't reveal the amount the men paid to cover the layaways, but says the pair was generous.

At a time when cynicism and commercialism threaten to snuff out the true spirit of the Christmas season, it is comforting to know that so many of our fellow citizens are ready to make a difference in someone's life without fanfare or recognition as motivation.

My faith in humanity has once again been restored. Merry Christmas to all!
