The search has begun to find a permanent Headmaster for New Bedford High School.

School spokesman Jonathan Carvalho tells WBSM News, the posting has been up for about a week, and 12 people have already applied.

He says students and parents will play a role early in the search process....

The final choice will be made by Supt. Dr. Pia Durkin, probably by the end of March or early April.

The current acting Headmaster at New Bedford High is Bernadette Coelho.

She was appointed by Dr. Durkin in January, after Headmaster Kathleen Dawson was granted a leave of absence. Dawson resigned early this month.
