Acushnet Police are continuing their investigation into the death of a four-year-old female pit bull.

The dog was found in a black garbage bag off of Slocum Street near the Acushnet River, allegedly dropped there by a man in a grey jogging suit, last seen headed toward Brooklawn Park.

Acushnet Animal Control Officer Rebekah Tomlinson tells WBSM News the body of the dog was turned over to the Animal Rescue League of Boston last week, and will soon be releasing results of a necropsy performed Friday.

The animal had a number of injuries to it's face, and appeared to be severely underfed.

A $2,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. James Costa at 508-998-0240.

To donate to the reward fund, checks can be made out to the Coalition for Animals of Greater New Bedford, 834 Kempton St, New Bedford, MA, 02740.
