Joaquin Guzman Loera, also known as the Mexican drug lord, started out in business not long after turning the age of 6, selling oranges and soft drinks.

According to The New York Times, Loera stated that he began to grow marijuana and poppies because there was no other way for his impoverished family to survive. Mexican officals were able to track Guzman down from the interview in his hide-out with Sean Penn.

In the interview, he stated, “I supply more heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine and marijuana than anybody else in the world. I have a fleet of submarines, airplanes, trucks and boats.”

“Though his fortune, estimated at $1 billion, has come with a trail of blood, he does not consider himself a violent man.” Guzman defends himself and nothing more and believes that he never starts trouble.

He spent several hours with Penn, and follow-up interviews began by phone and video in October when he was on the run.

This interview with Penn is believed to be the first that Guzman has given in decades, and was published online Saturday night, along with a video portion of the interview.
