Sam's Club will be closing two stores on the Southcoast.

In a statement released by the store's corporate headquarters the Seekonk, and Fall River locations will close by February 5 due to factors including declining sales and a waning membership base.

Channel 10 is reporting that the stores were temporarily closed on Friday but will remain open from Saturday until their permanent closure date in February.

Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia issued a statement calling the closure a “sign of the times” and he said his “main concern is for the displaced workers and our first priority is to assist them in any way possible, which we have already taken steps to do."

Sam's Club parent company, the Wal-Mart Corporation, announced plans to shut down 269 locations this year.
