New Bedford Police found a robbery suspect hiding in a shower.

Detective Captain Steve Vicents says that at around 5 a.m. Sunday they were sent to the 7-11 at 1499 Acushnet Ave. regarding an unarmed robbery.

The clerk told police a man entered the store demanding cash and cigarettes then fled the scene after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes.

The clerk wasn't harmed.

A Star Cab cab driver observed the suspect fleeing the scene and followed him until he entered a home located at 338 North Front St.

The driver then returned to the store and told the clerk before police arrived.

Police then went to the home where they spotted a man matching the suspect's description through a window inside the home along with a woman who was also inside.

Officers knocked on the door and the woman answered, at first denying anyone was in the home.

She then claimed that the man had jumped out of a bathroom window.

Vicente says police searched the bathroom and found the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Timothy Martins, hiding behind the shower curtain.

He was placed under arrest and is scheduled to be arraigned Monday morning in New Bedford District Court one count of unarmed robbery.
