New Bedford Robbery Foiled By Clerk

An alert New Bedford convenience store clerk foiled an early morning armed robbery. The 28 year old male clerk at the Petro Mart on Coggeshall Street told police he saw a man heading towards the store with his face covered, carrying a knife.

The quick thinking clerk held the door shut and after a few minutes the frustrated robber escaped to a waiting dark colored Hyundai Elantra heading east on Coggeshall St.. The suspect is described as a heavy set white male about 5 6 who was wearing a T shirt over his head with eye holes cut out of it.

The clerk was unharmed and anyone with info is asked to call New Bedford Police Detectives at 508-991-6300 ext 148.
