When it comes to building a casino in New Bedford, don't expect Reverend David Lima to remain quiet.

Lima, the Executive Minister of the New Bedford Interchurch Council and a long-time casino opponent, says he can understand why the idea of a casino in the Whaling City might be attractive to some....

Lima says while the financial payments promised to the city sound great, he says the casino will be pushing to scale them back if they're not making enough money.

He also believes the casino will take money away from small businesses in the Downtown, and bring more crime and addiction into the area.

According to Lima, the casino operators aren't looking to help New Bedford, they're looking to make money for themselves.
