Neighbors living near the Purchase Street-Russell Street intersection in New Bedford say another stop sign at that intersection might have prevented a fatal crash early Sunday that claimed the life of a 20 year old man.

A make-shift memorial sits at the intersection, honoring the memory of Juan Gonzalez.

On his weekly radio program Wednesday, Mayor Jon Mitchell offered his condolences to the Gonzalez family.  Mitchell also said he would look at the intersection.

The Mayor called the fatal crash "a terrible thing."

23 year old Manual Ribeiro has been charged with operating under the influence, death resulting and leaving the scene in connection with the crash.
