A coalition  of environmental groups and anti-coal activists say the continued operation of the Brayton Point Power Station in Somerset over the next ten years, will cost SouthCoast residents anywhere from $2-to-6 billion in health care costs.

The estimate is contained in a report entitled "Brayton Point Coal Plant: Operating At Our Expense."  The Coalition blames emissions from the plant for triggering cases of asthma, respiratory illnesses, heart attacks and even deaths.

Brayton Point owners, Dominion Energy says its taken steps in recent years to reduce emissions from the plant, but they did not specifically address the health impacts.
