Celebrate the music of Jamaica the way it was intended; in the sunshine with your toes in the sand.

After a successful first year, Reggae on West Beach in New Bedford returns this summer for its once-a-month laid-back rub-a-dub on the water.

Reggae on West Beach is a city-sponsored, 3-part concert series scheduled for the last Sunday of each month during the summer. The party takes place under the West Beach Pavilion (across from Hazelwood Park) on West Rodney French Blvd in New Bedford. This family-friendly event is free and set for Sunday, June 24th, July 29th, and August 26th from 3p-7p.

Each night features multiple live DJs who will play reggae, ska, dancehall, rocksteady and classic roots reggae style made popular by Bob Marley, as seen in a video from last year’s series.

Earlier this year, even organizer Brooke Baptiste and Reggae on West Beach won the FAN FAVORITE prize at the EforALL Southcoast’s Pitch Contest which awarded a cash prize towards the expansion of this program.

"Some grant money, winning the EforAll pitch contest Fan Favorite for $500 was a big help, private donations make up about 1/3 of funding, and then Parks & Rec/City of New Bedford helps by sponsoring the event. Local business sponsors as well and sponsorships are always welcome."
