Fenway Park got its first taste of the newest off-season acquisition of the Yankees as Masahiro Tanaka tossed seven-and-a-third innings, giving up two runs with seven strikeouts as New York knocked off the Red Sox 9-3. Tanaka moves to 3-and-0 with a 2.15 earned run average with the victory.

Three Yankees drove in two runs as Carlos Beltran went deep. Jacoby Ellsbury finished with two hits and two RBI in his return to Fenway.

Ellsbury was booed in his first return to Boston since signing with the Yankees.

Jon Lester took the loss after four-and-two-thirds innings of work, giving up three earned runs out of eight total on eleven hits.
