Over 200 pounds of prescription and over-the-counter drugs were collected in New Bedford during last week's National Drug Takeback Day event.

The New Bedford Police Department says they collected 205.4 pounds at the Rockdale Avenue headquarters on October 22. The medication was transported off-site and disposed of safely. The event collected nearly 30 pounds more medication than the Department's last drug takeback event in April, where 179 pounds of prescriptions and OTC drugs were collected.

New Bedford Police hold a drug takeback day every six months, but remind residents they can drop off unused or unwanted drugs year-round at the Rockdale Avenue station.
