This weekend marks the 70th anniversary of Southern New England's worst natural disaster, namely The Great Hurricane of 1938.

This legendary storm swept through, leaving death and ruin on Long Island, the Connecticut coast, Providence and all the South Coast up to Boston, New Hampshire and Vermont. WBSM listeners remember this epic catastrophe that stands out in lore due to the sheer scale of its destructive power.

The storm, aka 'The Long Island Express', carved itself into our coastline and also into the memory of entire communities that were flooded or even washed away! We honor the lives that were lost and salute all the people who survived The Great Hurricane of '38.
