A Raynham woman who had been a fugitive for two weeks turned herself in to authorities and denied charges that she stole more than $200,000 from her ailing stepfather.

The Taunton Daily Gazette reports that 56-year-old Joanne White pleaded not guilty Thursday to larceny over $250, check forgery, and committing abuse upon an elderly person with a disability.

Prosecutors say White misappropriated $160,000 from her stepfather's savings account and $42,000 from his checking account between 2012 and 2015. The man, who has since died, was suffering from dementia.

Police had been looking for White since March 16 when she failed to appear for her arraignment.

Her lawyer said she was authorized to pay her stepfather's bills and had no idea there was a warrant out for her arrest.  (Associated Press)
