The National Weather Service confirmed that a microburst did occur in Wareham Tuesday night. A team was  dispatched to survey the damage. The  microburst  slammed parts of the town with violent winds and heavy thunderstorms. Meteorologst Bill Simpson's team  verified reports of wind gusts of more than 100 miles per hour.

Wareham Fire Captain Matt Rowley says microburst started pounding Wareham's Swiss Beach, Pinehurst, and Mayflower Ridge communities around 7:30 p.m. The Weather Service crew  confirmed the microburst by using radar information, analyzing how trees fell, and checking the size of the damaged area.

The storm snapped trees and telephone poles, some of which smashed into homes and knocked out power to about one thousand homes. There are currently just 25 NSTAR customers without power.
