Limos are being booked and tuxedos are being rented as prom season falls upon the Southcoast. Over the next few weeks, high schoolers will take to the dance floors and afterparties, celebrating their accomplishments.

Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn warns teens to stay away from substance abuse during their celebrations, as they could have damaging effects short term and long term. "We want it to be a pleasant time, but alcohol and/or drugs can ruin it, ruin the prom, and ruin your life if it's used or mishandled," warns the district attorney.

Quinn says parents need to be smart, as well. If parents are planning to host a party at their home as a safe haven for post-prom parties, Quinn says it's illegal to serve alcohol to anyone under 21 years old.
