``These men waged war so that we might know peace.''

That's what President Barack Obama said today of the men who stormed the beaches at Normandy 70 years ago today.

More than 160-thousand allied troops landed on the French coastline in 1944. The massive invasion was a critical part of defeating Germany during World War Two.

Veterans of the D-Day invasion sat in the audience and were given a long standing ovation as Obama spoke at the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in France.
