It's been a few weeks since we launched our YMCA Southcoast Power Scholar Academy campaign and thanks to our sponsors, ProGroup Contracting, Cottage Street Motors, Precision Window & Kitchen and great support from other community members, here's some of what we've accomplished so far:

  • Middle School Scholars will be going to the Boston Museum of Science
  • Elementary Scholars will be going to the Providence Children’s Museum
  • The Lego Enrichment Program will receive a new set of Lego Robotics

The YMCA's Ann Marie Sawyer, Director of Educational Achievement, had this to say about the excitement around Power Scholar Academy for the 2018 season:

"One of our returning Middle School teachers who works at Keith Middle during the school year was telling me that students keep coming up to him telling him they cannot wait for the program to start. Also, they have all been telling their friends so he was handing out at least five registrations a day to students who were asking themselves to be part of the program. Middle Schoolers!"

The YMCA Power Scholar Academy is currently at full enrollment with the wait list for both the elementary and middle school programs.

Donations made to the Power Scholars Academy will help to provide experiences (such as the above) and supplies to scholars this summer and set them up for a successful start to school in the fall.

Donations by check can be made payable to YMCA Southcoast; 128 Union Street; New Bedford, Massachusetts, 02740 with Power Scholars in the memo.
