Two Portuguese Man-of-Wars were spotted this week in the Wareham River. Wareham Harbormaster and Shellfish Contstable Gary Buckminster says that the sightings were off Parkwood Beach and Long Beach about three quarters of a mile apart.

He added there are no plans to close any of the beaches. Portuguese Man-of-Wars were spotted at a beach near Fort Phoenix and on West Island in Fairhaven and the Westport River, Cherry and Webb beach and Horseneck beach in Westport in recent weeks.

The sightings in Wareham are the first since a dozen people were stung swimming at Horseneck beach on the Fourth of July but have not been spotted there since. Anyone spotting a man-of-war is asked to call the harbormaster's office at Onset Pier 508-295-8160.
