On Tuesday, March 7, 2017, at about 12:52 pm, Seekonk Police officers were notified of an injury to a 17-month-old child at the Briarwood Child Academy, 1009 Taunton Avenue.

After arriving, officers learned that the child suffered visible injury to the bridge of the nose and was being attended to by Seekonk Fire Department personnel. The child was transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Investigating officers learned the child had been in the care of an employee at the day care. Officers learned that the employee maneuvered the child in a manner described as dropping the child several inches onto an aluminum-framed cot. The child’s face contacted the framing of the cot resulting in injury.

The employee was not on scene when police arrived as her employment was reportedly terminated.

Investigating officers were able to contact the former employee and subsequently conducted an interview. The former employee was cooperative. This appears to be an isolated incident.

As a result of the investigation, Crystal Salisbury, age 33, of Riverside, RI, is being charged with Assault & Battery on a Child with Injury (MGL C. 265 S. 13J). It is alleged that Ms. Salisbury had care and custody of a child and recklessly permitted the child to suffer bodily injury.
