Police are searching for a handcuffed Hyannis woman who escaped from the back of a police cruiser.
The Cape Cod Times reports that Barnstable police Detective Lt. John Murphy says Shainah Lopes was wanted on larceny warrants. Police say she ran when an officer tried to stop her but she was handcuffed and put in a cruiser.

The 32-year-old Lopes was to be charged on the warrants, disorderly content and resisting arrest. But as the officer drove away her girlfriend opened the cruiser's back door and Lopes escaped Friday night.

Murphy says the cruiser was locked from the inside but the doors could be opened from the outside.

The officer arrested 34-year-old Latrona Sims of Hyannis. She was charged with interfering with a police officer and aiding an escape.
