New Bedford Police are working to identify a vehicle seen fleeing the scene of a shooting Saturday night.

Police say the shooting took place around 10pm in the area of Ash and Elm Streets in the West End.

A 23-year-old New Bedford man was shot in the right lower back. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he's recovering from his injury.

At the time, witnesses dismissed the five or six gunshots as fireworks.

Detectives are now looking for a black, four-door sedan with tinted windows in connection with the shooting. A nearby home and a car were struck by stray bullets, but nobody else was injured.

If you have any information on the shooting, call Detective William Westgate at 508-991-6300 ext. 136.
