Two fugitives wanted in Wednesday's attack on a French magazine say they want to "die as martyrs."

French media say police have made contact with two brothers who have taken a hostage in a small town about 25 miles northeast of Paris.

The comment made by the fugitives dims hopes for a peaceful end to the current standoff.

French President Francois Hollande [[ fran-SWAH oh-LAWN ]] urged calm in a nationwide address earlier this morning.

Hollande said officials would do everything they could to protect citizens from further attacks by terrorists.

Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris has closed two of its four runways, though officials there say the closures have not affected flight schedules.

Residents of the town where the hostage situation is occurring have been told to stay inside their homes.

SWAT teams have been seen arriving on the scene via helicopter.

Gunshots were reported before the standoff was confirmed, but no reports of injuries have been confirmed by French officials.
