There's an alarming increase this year in the number of police officers fatally shot in the line of duty.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund's report says 64 officers were shot and killed this year -- a more than 50 percent increase over 2015. And deadly ambush shootings of officers is up a staggering 163-percent, with 21 deadly attacks. That number includes the five officers gunned down in Dallas in July.

Texas leads the nation in law enforcement officer deaths. The study says 17 Texas cops died in 2016., California and Louisiana were second and third on the list. The group says a total of 135 officers died in 2016. (TTWN Media Networks Inc.)
