Police: Man Was Waiting to Rob Employees Heading Home
A New Bedford man is being arraigned Monday after he was caught lurking outside a local business.
Police were dispatched to 251 Orchard Street Friday night, responding to a report of a suspicious male hiding alongside a dumpster.
When police arrived on scene, a taxi was waiting outside of The Corner Store, waiting to give employees a ride home. The driver did not notice the suspicious man crouched near the building, wearing two hooded sweatshirts, black gloves, a ski mask, and a winter hat.
Police searched the man and found a knife and pellet gun on his person.
They believe the man, identified as 30-year-old Rashaun Raheem Burgess of Phillips Ave, was preparing to rob the employees when they exited the building.
Burgess faces charges of possession of a dangerous weapon, and attempt to commit a crime.
