A New Bedford man faces multiple charges after trying to return stolen items at the Dartmouth Mall.

Dartmouth Police say 27-year-old Mitchell violet allegedly stole several items from Sears, and then tried returning them for store credit on Monday. After his attempt failed, Violet fled on foot across Faunce Corner Road to Best Buy, where he was apprehended by Dartmouth Police.

After his arrest, officers found a key to a 2007 Mercedes on Violet's person. After searching the Sears parking lot, police found the Mercedes and determined it was stolen out of New Bedford in November. In addition to larceny,

Violet is charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle and an outstanding warrant.
