New Bedford Police are hunting for two men wanted for a stabbing early Thursday in an Ashley Street apartment.

Det. Capt. Steven Vicente tells WBSM News, two men forced their way into an apartment at 56 Ashley St. around 6am, and confronted a male occupant and demanded money.  A scuffle broke out, and the man was stabbed in the right chest area.  The attackers grabbed an undisclosed amount of money, then fled the apartment and were last seen running east on David Street.

The 28 year old victim is now being treated at Rhode Island Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.  The victim's mother was in the apartment at the time.  She was not hurt.

The two attackers were described as light skinned males, around 5-9, and both were wearing shorts with tee-shirts.  Anyone with information should contact New Bedford Detectives, 508 991-6300, ext 134.
