NEW BEDFORD - New Bedford Police have arrested a homeless man after he allegedly broke into a downtown restaurant and stole liquor.

Police say a witness to the alleged crime flagged officers down at around 1 a.m. Friday, saying the man had broken into the Moby Dick Brewing Co. at 52 Union Street and took two bottles of alcohol.

Police had already been en route to an alarm activation at the restaurant when they were flagged down by the witness.

After receiving a description of the suspect, police located the man, identified as Douglas Boice, 44, homeless.

Boice was arrested and charged with breaking and entering into a building during the nighttime for a felony, possession of open container of alcohol on a public way, and larceny from a building.
