EASTON — A Brockton man is under arrest after allegedly punching a senior citizen in the face multiple times during a road rage incident.

Police in Easton say Joseph Rivard, 21, of Brockton, had tried to pass the victim's vehicle as the two were driving west on Belmont Street at around 12 p.m. on Wednesday. As Rivard attempted to pass the elderly man, police say the vehicles made contact, causing minor damage.

Rivard allegedly followed the victim into the parking lot of North Easton Savings bank at 547 Washington Street where he exited his vehicle and began pounding on the victim's car with his fists.

As the victim exited his vehicle, police say Rivard began punching the 71-year-old Medford man repeatedly in the face. The victim was able to fight back and stop Rivard from attacking him further.

The 71-year-old man was treated for cuts on his face by Easton Fire Department paramedics at the scene.

Rivard had minor swelling under his left eye, but did not require medical treatment.

Rivard was arrested and charged with assault and battery on a person over 60 and disturbing the peace. He was released on several conditions following a dangerousness hearing Thursday morning.
