NEW BEDFORD — Police have arrested two men after they were seen allegedly engaged in a drug deal in New Bedford's North End.

Members of the New Bedford Police Department's narcotics unit were conducting an investigation into street-level drug sales Thursday evening when they observed two men who appeared to be involved in a drug transaction in a vehicle in the area of Nash Road, North Front Street, and Whitman Street.

Upon further investigation, police arrested the two men: Darin Gomes, 25, of 276 Bates Street, New Bedford, and Kyle Gilmete, 37, of 523 North Front Street, Apt. 2, New Bedford. Gomes is charged with possession of a Class D substance with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate drug laws, operating a vehicle with a revoked license and two warrants. Gilmete faces a charge of possession of a Class B substance.
