A man sustained serious injuries after he was attacked by a pit bull on Wednesday.

Fall River Police tell ABC6 the pitbull, identified as Rex, was getting his cage cleaned by his owner when the dog got loose, ran into another room, and attacked a 58-year-old man who also lived in the Charles St. residence.

Rex's owner was eventually able to seperate the two, but the victim sustained bite wounds throughout his body.

Police say officers arrived on scene to find the victim covered in blood.

They also observed blood on the walls, floor, and furniture.

The victim was taken to St. Ann's Hospital in Fall River before being transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.

Fall River Police Animal Control took custody of the dog and the incident is under investigation.
