Pi Day will be celebrated this year on Saturday as the numerical date 3/14 also corresponds with the first three digits of the mathematical constant pi.

Doctor Saeja Kim, the Chair of Mathematics at The University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth, tells WBSM's Brian Thomas many people, including a dean at UMass Dartmouth, have found fun and interesting ways to celebrate the day.

Doctor Kim also adds that, after the winter we've had this year, Pi Day will give South Coast families a way to celebrate in a fun and informative way.

This year will be even more numerically significant, as the entire date with the year will be 3-1-4-1-5, which are the first five digits in pi.
