The long time assistant to the Board of Assessors in New Bedford is stepping down.  Peter Barney says he's retiring as of October 8th.

Barney has worked for the city for more than 35 years in various positions, and is considered the unofficial "historian" of City Hall.

Barney admits there's some parts of the job he won't miss....

Barney says he'll also miss the talented people he's worked with in the Assessors office, and his chats with City Councilors and Mayors over the years.
