Wareham Police ended a person in distress search Sunday night.

Police Chief Kevin Walsh says that at roughly 7:15 p.m. officers responded to the wooded area behind Tractor Supply and the former Walmart buildings off Cranberry Highway for a report of what sounded like a child yelling for help.

Walsh says an extensive search was undertaken, which involved the use of thermal imaging equipment and personnel from Onset Fire Department, Wareham EMS, and SEMLEC Search & Rescue.

After no person or evidence was found the search was called off at roughly 12:30 a.m.
