The Boston Red Sox will retire the number of former ace pitcher Pedro Martinez next month.

Martinez's number-45 will be retired July 28th, just two days after the right-hander is enshrined into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.  The ceremony will take placed at Fenway Park before the Red Sox host the Chicago White Sox.

The number-45 will become the ninth on the right field facade of Fenway Park.  Martinez played for Boston from 1998 to 2004, going 117-and-37 with a 2.52 ERA.

He helped the Red Sox win the 2004 World Series, ending a drought that dated back to 1918.  (Metro Networks Inc.)
