Pedestrian In Fatal New Bedford Accident Identified

New Bedford Police have identified the woman killed in a pedestrian accident Wednesday morning in the North End.

Lt. John Chaves says the woman has been positively identified as 86-year-old Angelina Machado of New Bedford.

Chaves says Machado was crossing the street at the corner of Acushnet Avenue and Nash Road when she was hit by a car before 7:30 Wednesday morning. Chaves says the driver in the accident was waved on by a garbage truck operator to make a turn. When the operator made the turn, they struck Machado.

She was transported to St. Luke's Hospital where she died later that day.

The identity of the driver is not being released at this time.

The accident remains under investigation by New Bedford and State Police.
