A 23 year old New Bedford man is being treated at Rhode Island Hospital following a pedestrian accident Wednesday afternoon in the city's North End.

Police Chief David Provencher tells WBSM News, the man had just stepped off a SERTA bus at Church and Staron Streets, when he was struck by a car.

Police are withholding the man's name, but Chief Provencher said the man suffered serious injuries to his lower body, and was taken immediately to Rhode Island Hospital.

So far, no charges have been filed.  Patrol officers and the Department's Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating.
