The New England Patriots are continuing to look at ways to improve their team and their latest target is a  well-known name. The Patriots welcomed free agent defensive end and former second overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft Chris Long to town today, according to the team's site.

While news of the team's interest broke last week, thanks to Mark Daniels of the Providence Journal, a move to bring the son of Hall-of-Famer Howie Long would make sense now that Akiem Hicks has signed a deal with the Chicago Bears.

Long, who's spent his entire career with the then St. Luis now Los Angeles Rams, has put together productive years with the less-than-stellar club. In 114 games, Long has compiled 194 tackles and 54.5 sacks, along with eight forced fumbles.

The 30-year-old is coming off of a couple of injury plagued season, however, playing in just 18 games over the 2014 and 2015 seasons.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Long will make a few more visits this week, then select what team he wants to sign with.
