Though their full schedule has not yet been revealed, multiple reports have pegged the New England Patriots' season opening game, in which they'll waive their fifth Super Bowl banner at Gillette Stadium, to be played against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Boston Globe's Ben Volin was the first person to hint at the potential match up which would pit the defending champs against last season's AFC West Division winners.

The two teams played each other last in the divisional round of the 2015 playoffs, with the Pats winning at home 27-20.

The official schedule for the 2017 season should be released soon.
