Patriots WR Hawkins Announces Retirement
Though he signed a one-year deal to join the New England Patriots back in May, veteran receiver Andrew Hawkins will never suit up for the team.
That's because the 6-year wide out announced his retirement in an UNINTERRUPTED video, Tuesday afternoon, saying his body failed to respond as he prepped for the start of training camp.
Hawkins was expected to contend for one of the spots in the team's receiving corps, after coming over from the Cleveland Browns this offseason.
Over his six seasons with the Browns and the Cincinnati Bengals, Hawkins had been productive, catching 209 of the 343 balls thrown his way for 2,419 yards and nine scores.
