The New England Patriots made a pair of moves today, that have slightly altered their active roster.

The first move that the team made was to place veteran linebacker Shea McClellin on Injured Reserve. McClellin, who had missed most of the preseason due to an undisclosed injury, was a somewhat surprising addition to the roster that was announced Saturday.

The decision to add McClellin to the initial roster might be that the team could now designate him as a player, who is eligible to return from IR later this season. If he had started the campaign on IR that would not have been an option.

To fill the roster spot made available by McClellin's moved to IR, the Pats brought back veteran running back and core special teamer Brandon Bolden. The six year vet was a somewhat surprising omission from the initial 53-man roster, but only had to wait one day to rejoin the team.
